Rhetoric is everywhere. Look for it.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned this semester is that rhetoric is everywhere. It's in the newspaper, on websites, in what people say, in how you dress, and in films you watch. How you synthesize and respond to that rhetoric creates your perception of reality. Everyone has an audience, and what you say holds meaning. The more attention you pay to the media, the more you'll learn about how to understand others and express yourself.

Ultimately, this class taught me to never stop thinking critically about the world around me. Whenever I visit a website or read an article, I'm wary about the author's standpoint. Why did they say this? What elements did they use to convey their stance? How do they try to evoke a response? Does what the author is saying make logical sense? While processing all the information is overwhelming at times, it's helped strengthen my skills as a rhetor and a critical thinker.
