We've established that supplements aren't beneficial to most Americans. That doesn't mean they can't help certain people. When should you consider taking supplements? If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you should talk to your doctor about supplementation:

1. Do you eat fewer than 2 meals per day?

2. Is your diet restricted? That is, do you not eat meat, or milk or milk products, or eat fewer than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day?
3. Do you eat alone most of the time?
4. Without wanting to, have you lost or gained more than 10 pounds in the last 6 months?
5. Do you take 3 or more prescription or over-the-counter medicines a day?
6. Do you have 3 or more drinks of alcohol a day?

7. Are you pregnant or over 50 years of age?
